Fantasyland

Strong Link to Theme

During the topic, ‘Fantasyland,’ children will explore and investigate the environment around them, aiming to solve the mystery of who has been into their classroom and caused a disturbance. Along the way children will explore the many beings of a mystical realm including dragons, unicorns, giants and knights. Learning will become real when children use their imagination to become ‘investigators’, ‘knights’ and ‘princesses’ to put their clues to the test.

Maths Links

In maths we will continue to develop confidence and fluency in number recognition, ordering and sequencing to 10, 15 and 20.

We will be exploring 2D and 3D shapes and time whilst beginning to look at addition and subtraction.

Discrete / unlinked subjects

Children will have the opportunity to carry out many creative activities, learning and exploring a range of skills and materials.

Team building and Ball Games will be taught for PE.

We will be discussing working together, recognising and responding to our emotions and those of others and similarities and differences in PSHE.

Topic Hook

Children will encounter a crime scene leading to them having to carry out a quest to find the culprit.

Requests or Reminders to Parents

  • Please remember to take earrings out for PE days.
  • Please ensure that your child has PE kit in school each week. Plimsolls are now needed.
  • Don’t forget a water bottle.
  • Wellie boots and weather-appropriate attire must be in kept in school.
  • Spare clothes can be kept in a plastic bag on pegs. Any spare clothes sent home need to be washed and returned to school, please.

Continuing learning at home

Please practise any of the following ….

  • Reading…Reading… and more Reading.
  • HFW- these will be sent home in sets of 10.
  • Letter formation.
  • Read and write numbers from 1 – 20.
  • Number formation.
  • Sounds – Google – ‘Mr Thorne Does Phonics’ and encourage your child to practise their sound recognition.
