This term our topic theme is 'Our Community, Our Values'. We have been doing work around working as a team, coming together and helping others.
Linking to this theme we have been reading a book called ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’. A story of friendship, hope and the importance of kindness.
In support of our theme and class book we started off the year by taking part in ‘Miles for refugees’ during September.
The children started by measuring the playground to work out how many laps they would need to run to complete a mile.
The children worked together to achieve their chosen distance of 555 miles, which reflects the distance of a refugee’s journey to safety. They worked together as a community to help raise awareness and over £100 towards ‘The British Red Cross’.
In science the children were testing friction using different surfaces and a toy car.
Year 5 took part in the Youth Climate Summit 2020 to take action to create a more just, sustainable world and make commitments and pledges for the planet.
The children engaged in a variety of discussions and activities linked to climate change, sustainability and plastic pollution.
