People who suffer from nut allergies can develop a severe. potentially life=threatening allergic reaction.

If someone has a nut allergy it is not just eating nuts that can cause a severe reaction, just being touched on the skin or smelling the breath of someone who has eaten nuts or a product containing nuts can trigger an anaphylactic shock (which can cause breathing and swallowing difficulties).

Teaching staff in the school are trained to use Epi-Pens (an injection of adrenalin) which is requited immediately if this happens. We cannot have nuts in school in any form. So please can we ask that you have no nuts products in the lunch boxes or brought into the school as treats.All pre-packaged food sold with the EU, including the UK, must declare and highlight the presence in the ingredient list of 14 major allergens even if they appear in small quantities. These 14 allergens include peanuts and common tree nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashew nuts, pecan nuts, Brazil nuts, pistachio nuts, macadamia nuts and Queensland nuts).

What Products are NOT Allowed

• Peanut butter sandwiches
• Chocolate spreads
• Cereal bars
• Cakes that contain nuts
• Biscuits / cookies that contain nuts
• Some granola bars
• Some Asian food, including satay
• Peanut butter cakes
• Sauces that contain nuts
• Any item where nuts / peanuts are listed in the ingredients

This list is not exhaustive, so please check the packaging of products closely. We appreciate that this is an additional thing to check and we know that you recognise the importance of it. We do have to insist we are a nut free school.

What Products ARE Allowed

• Items that ‘may contain nuts’ and ‘may contain traces of nuts’ or ‘made in factories that use nuts’.
• These present a low risk and are not direct ingredients in the products.
• All other non-nut based snacks and food stuff.
